Book extra bags online at the time of booking or add bags later under '<a href="/?tab=mb">manage&nbsp;booking</a>' or give us a call on 0861 KULULA (585852). Extra bags can be added to your booking up to 2 hours prior to your departure time for only R245.&nbsp;<br /><br />Bags weighing more than the 20kg allowance will be charged a 'heavy bag' fee of R250 per bag at the airport. If you've packed your dumb bells and your bag weighs more than 32kg it will have to be transported as cargo, at your own cost.</p> <p>Infants under the age of 2 years are entitled to 1 free checked bag @ 20kg. They may also travel with a collapsible pushchair and a child seat for free. No additional bags may be purchased for infants.</p> <h2>why does luggage get offloaded and put onto later flights?</h2> <p>We know it can be a real pain, and when ever possible we do try our utmost to avoid it at all costs.</p> <p>The most common reason that luggage is offloaded is due to a weight restriction which the Captain can impose for the following reasons:</p> <ol> <li>Weather conditions e.g. wind direction, heat, rain etc. at either the departing or arrival station</li> <li>Fuel can also be a factor if we need to carry additional fuel for any reason</li> <li>Lanseria has a shorter run way than the other airport stations, this is also a contributing factor to weight restrictions imposed at Lanseria.</li> </ol> <p>If a weight restriction is imposed it means that an aircraft can not operate with its standard weight allowance and thus the load has to be reduced, this can be due to restrictions at departing or arrival stations.&nbsp;<br />In the event that this happens baggage will be transferred to later flights where there is availability and we will then deliver the bags to customers. We can go for weeks without weight restrictions and then we may be plagued with weight restrictions after that for a whole week. It just depends on the factors stated above.</p> <h2>what sports equipment can I take and what is the cost?</h2> <p>Bikes, fishing gear, surfboards etc. are not considered normal luggage, and can only be carried as part of your 1 free piece baggage allowance. Extra pieces will be charged at the airport rate of R350 per piece. Can I get a refund?</h2> <p>Extra bags purchased online are refundable via our kulula Contact Centre, but only prior to check-in of your flight.</p> <h2>how can I transport my wedding dress/cake?</h2> <p>We know this is your special day and we want to help in any way possible, but unfortunately our aircraft have no extra space and, as such, kulula.com cannot transport these valuable items.</p> <h2>how do I transport larger items?</h2> <p>While every effort is made to ensure that these items are transported safely, the acceptance for carriage is subject to the condition that all passengers assume full responsibility for these valuable items. Larger, peculiar items will be checked in, but not permitted in the cabin - if the larger item is in addition to your 1 free bag allowance, extra baggage rates will apply. So if you have any strange items that you need to travel with, make sure they are packed securely and pay for the extra bag. Other domesticated pets such as dogs and cats will be accepted provided they are placed in a suitable container for transportation - NO wire mesh cages are allowed, and no cardboard boxes will be accepted.
