Mauritian beaches are the stuff of postcards and paradise, and with so many sandy shores to choose from you really are spoiled for choice. Regulated to perfection by nature, Mauritius’ waters never dip below a pleasant 23 degrees, guaranteeing you a refreshing and relaxing dip every time. Here are five of the most famous and picturesque beaches on the tourist-centric northern coast of the island.

Trou aux Biches Beach

Located just a few kilometres South West of Grand Baie, Trou aux Biches is considered to be the best beach on the island thanks to its soft white sand quality, consistently favourable weather and water activities. Spend the day tanning beneath the warm Mauritian sun, fishing for big game and playing volleyball on the shore. Finish the day sipping on a handcrafted drink as the sun sets over the sparkling waters of the Indian Ocean.

Mont Choisy Beach

Mont Choisy is three kilometres of unspoiled beach, lined with a curtain of casuarina trees to shelter you from the beating summer sun. Protected by white sand bends just off the shore, its waters are tranquil and turquoise, making it perfect for lazy swims or just something to stare at while you sunbathe! If you’re looking for something a little quieter, this beach is ideal during the week. Frequent sightings of rare marine animals occur when you snorkel or swim in Mont Choisy’s warm ocean waters.

Pereybere Beach

See and be seen on Pereybere Beach. Popular with both locals and tourists, beachgoers have loads of food stalls, mini-bars, restaurants and water activities to choose from. The lagoon is a popular choice for keen snorkelers thanks to its depth and crystal clear waters, while the ocean’s still, safe waters are a perfect swimming spot for the whole family. Recline on a deck chair overlooking the ocean, collect seashells on the shore and take part in the famous undersea walk, which allows you to explore the seabed and see all of its colourful inhabitants on foot.

La Cuvette Beach, Grand Baie

As the smallest beach on the list, La Cuvette is the perfect setting for couples in search of a romantic break. Enjoy a spectacular evening walk alongside the calm waters, undeterred by rocks and coral. This is a secluded beach experience at its best - simple, natural beauty with an untouched feeling that leaves you feeling connected to nature. End your stroll with an intimate meal right in the centre of Grand Baie – it’s all there ready and waiting!

Grand Bay Public Beach

Right there in the centre of Grand Baie is Grand Bay Public Beach. The stretch of beach itself is rather small, but don’t let that put you off as some of the most spectacular and best views of Grand Baie and the rest of the bay can be enjoyed here. Dotted with food stands, beachgoers will never be without a fresh beverage in hand or something to calm the belly grumbles
