Flying with musical instruments

kulula loves music, and we understand that musical instruments may require special handling due to their size, shape or fragility. We recommend that you contact our Contact Centre on 0861 KULULA (585852) to get the latest information when travelling with a musical instrument to avoid any inconvenience.

Please note that the checked bag allowance per travellers is dependent on the Branded Fares option selected at the time of booking and ranges from hand baggage only, i.e. no checked baggage with our ‘Fly Light’ fare option, 1 checked bag @ 20kg with our ‘Pack & Go’ fare option, or up to 2 checked bags @ 20kg each as part of our ‘Fully Loaded’ fare option. Please check your booking and refer to our Branded Fares information for more details on the different baggage allowance options available.

The dimensions permitted for any checked musical instrument is the maximum weight of 20kg and 190cm (L) X 75cm(W) X 65cm (H). If you are carrying more than the required dimension, you can purchase an extra bag at a discounted rate online or via the Contact Centre or at the higher rate on departure at the airport. If your instrument exceeds 20kg a ‘heavy bag’ fee will apply. Arrangements for fragile items and large items exceeding 32kg to be carried as cargo can be made with our Contact Centre, up to 2 hours prior to flight departure.

Large and heavy items, like cellos and amplifiers, will be transported in the cargo hold - in this case customers are advise to purchase sports equipment to fly these items.
