More convenience at Joburg's alternative airport: Durbs to also benefit

Cape Town: October 10, 2008 - In response to consumer demand for more flights from Lanseria airport, kulula.com, South Africa's largest online retailer, today announced plans to increase the frequency of flights between Cape Town and Lanseria by up to 80 percent, staring October 28, 2008. The closest airport to Jo'burg's CBD, Lanseria has become popular among business travellers living or working in Sandton and surrounding areas, offering more convenient parking and easier check-in than O.R. Tambo for those taking domestic flights.

"At Lanseria, the number of planes taking off early, on average, is 10 percent higher than O.R. Tambo," says Gidon Novick, joint CEO of kulula.com. "Another bonus for consumers is Lanseria's lower airport taxes."

The route between Cape Town and Lanseria will be boosted from 20 to 35 flights a week, with weekday flights increasing from three to six and Sunday flights from one to five. "The near doubling of flight frequency on this route is a response to tremendous consumer demand. For example, from our 12-hour set sale on October 8 for flights between Joburg and Cape Town or Durban, more than 8 200 seats were sold."

More dailies for Durban
Apart from the boost in flights for Cape Town, kulula will also increase the convenience of its flights between Durban and Lanseria with two daily, except Saturday, starting October 28, 2008. Due to limited consumer demand, flights between PE and Lanseria will fall away.
