Johannesburg, 14 November 2016 – South Africa’s favourite low-cost carrier kulula.com is proud to announce that it has been named Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa and the Middle East for 2017 in the annual Airline Excellence Awards, hosted by AirlineRatings.com for the third consecutive year.
The awards aim to celebrate and promote excellence in the airline industry and the pinnacles of these efforts are hailed in the Airline Excellence Awards. Airlineratings.com’s experienced editorial team, praised kulula for its innovation of bringing affordable, safe and fun travel to millions across its network. “The airline is a wonderful blend of technology and humour”.
kulula scored three out of five in terms of its product experience, which evaluates the onboard amenities. The score was achieved because of kulula's fresh and delicious food, as well as the wide selection of beverages supplied by its in-house catering operation, Food Directions. It is also kulula’s Next Generation Boeing 737 – 800's, with its comfortable and reclining seats and abundance of cabin space, that also contributed to the top score.
“We’re truly delighted to receive this award and especially pleased to have won it for a third year. This shows that the quirky, fun persona of our brand is underpinned by the sound and sustainable management of our holding company, Comair. Our airline and hospitality brands continue to garner accolades and that makes us extremely proud,” says Bridgette Ramuluvhana, Marketing Manager for kulula.com
Earlier this year, kulula was named the Best African Low-Cost Airline for 2016 at the Business Traveller Africa Awards. The airline has also been rated as the top South African low cost carrier for the second consecutive year in the SA Customer Satisfaction Index (SAcsi), as well as the Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa, as rated by the 2016 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
Currently, kulula has completed its Boeing 737-800 (189 seats) fleet upgrade plan and operates more than 412 flights a week across 14 domestic routes.
