Johannesburg - 16 April 2007 - kulula.com, South Africa's biggest online retailer, has smashed another of its own records by topping R1bn in annual online sales.
The airline which has carried over 7 million customers to date attributes this success to a quick, user-friendly website, efficient technology and successful partnerships that enable kulula.com to offer popular value-added services.
Says Carl Scholtz, the airline's Executive Manager for IT, "We've seen a great return on investment on our software which we developed in-house and get over half a million visitors to our website every month."
Adds Scholtz, "When we launched our product nearly six years ago, South Africa had reached a stage where people were ready for and trusted e-business and had adequate access to the internet to make online transactions."
Currently over 80% of kulula's flight bookings are made online and it takes less than two minutes to make an online booking. During one of kulula's recent sales, the airline sold over 40 000 seats in one day.
The airline's other offers to customers include the kulula credit card with which customers can earn kulula moolah redeemable on any kulula flight, anytime, anywhere. Through partnerships with Imperial Car Rental and Discovery Health kulula.com offers its customers discounts on car hire, chauffeur drive and flight discounts to Vitality members.
