Jo'burg, 6 October 2010 - Thanks to fan donations via its website, kulula raised over R430,000 for the Community Crisis Centre in Reiger Park in east Jo'burg. The airline will be presenting the donation at a cheque handover ceremony at the centre on 6 October.
The Reiger Park Community Crisis Centre is an established NGO that offers community-based care, a feeding scheme for orphans and vulnerable children and HIV/Aids programmes.
The much-needed funds will go towards the expansion of the current infrastructure of the organisation, and life skills training and development programmes for care-givers, auxiliary social workers and centre management.
According to the centre's chairman, Mr Wayne Newton, this life skills training is vital. "These volunteers are guardians of over 500 registered orphans and vulnerable children, and they need to be equipped to deal with the psycho-social challenges the children are facing," he explains.
"We've been supporting the peeps in Reiger Park for nearly five years now and have many of their young people working with us in learnership programmes," said kulula Marketing Manager, Nadine Damen. "It means so much to us to collaborate with our fans in supporting a community close to our home and hearts."
