Checking in for domestic flights

  • You'll need your valid government-issued South African ID book/Smart Card, driver's license or valid passport and booking code to check-in. Learn more on acceptable forms of identification.
  • Check-in 90 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time
  • The check-in counters and bag drop close 45 minutes prior to departure time
  • Online check-in opens 24 hours before the departure of your flight and closes 2 hours before departure
  • Familiarise yourself with the baggage restrictions to avoid any hassles at the airport
  • Valuables or important items should not be checked in but kept in your hand luggage
important notice: If you’re travelling to or from South Africa with a minor (younger than 18 years of age) from 1 June 2015, you’ll need to produce an unabridged birth certificate (and possibly some additional documentation) for the child. Baggage rules

You can travel with one checked in bag of 20kg and one piece of hand luggage weighing up to 7kg plus one small handbag or a slimline laptop bag. If you need to pack more bags, save bucks and buy an extra bag online for R290. It will cost you R385 at the airport. Want 5kgs free baggage? Get a kulula credit card.

Note: Firearms are prohibited on all kulula.com flights.

Check-in

You can avoid the check-in queues by checking in online from your PC, mobile phone or at the kiosks at the airport. Drop your bag at the ‘bag drop-off’ zone no later than 45 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights. Check-in kiosks close 60 minutes before departure.

  • You can make one change to your booking online up to 24 hours prior to departure. Visit our ‘manage booking’ page
  • Our Contact Centre can make further changes for you. Any flight changes within 24 hours and more than 2 hours prior to departure must be done through the Contact Centre
  • Name changes cannot be made. Spelling errors to names can be amended by calling us within 24 hours
  • If you purchased flight extras such as an additional bag, please make any flight changes through our Contact Centre with your booking code
Missed flights (‘no-show’) 
Should you miss your flight you will forfeit its value and your return or any additional flights will be cancelled. If you’re still planning to travel on any of these flights please re-confirm within 24 hours of the missed flight with our Contact Centre to avoid a higher fare when rebooking.

For anyone with disabilities or medical conditions and in need of assistance, please call our Contact Centre on 0861 KULULA (585852) Monday to Thursday 07h00 - 19h00 and Friday 07h00 - 15h00 at least 24 hours prior to flight departure to arrange the proper care and facilities. If you’ve booked online please call us to confirm your booking 48 hours prior to flight departure. Special assistance bookings are limited per flight.

Do you need any flight extras?

Pre-paid seats

From just R70 (incl. VAT) you can choose a seat 24 hours and more before flight departure. The easiest way is online, alternatively call our Contact Centre 0861 KULULA (585852).

Exit row seats are not available for pre-paid seating or for passengers travelling with infants due to safety regulations. So if you have extra long legs and need those seats, get to the airport check-in counters early. For special assistance seating, please call our Contact Centre on 0861 KULULA (585852) as pre-paid seats are not applicable.
